Spirituality vs Materialism: Exploring the Balance for a Fulfilling Life

In the modern world, we often find ourselves caught between the realms of spirituality and materialism. On one hand, there’s the pursuit of inner peace, purpose, and connection, while on the other hand, there’s the relentless drive for wealth, possessions, and external achievements. Achieving a balance between these two contrasting aspects can lead to a more fulfilling and harmonious life. In this article, we’ll delve into the significance of spirituality and materialism, and explore how we can strike a balance that aligns with our true selves.

Materialism as such is no different than spirituality. Though usually materialism is viewed negatively and is considered to be something inferior by those who advocate spirituality by renouncing the comforts and Goodies available. Those who don’t understand what renunciation, actually means.  They think that denying everything is renunciation, living miserably and in denial is not spirituality which unfortunately is a general perception. Whereas, real spirituality means: living and enjoying, which is easily available, yet remains unattached. That means when such and such things or comforts are unavailable, you are not looking for them or you are not perturbed, if you don’t have them.

Recognizing the fundamental differences between the two concepts

Spirituality and materialism, are not Contrary to each other. If we observe minutely, the objective of both is the same….   to live blissfully. Only the direction is different but the greater objective is the same, to be happy, to be blissful.

An overtly spiritual person works on self and tries to experiment with his mind and being by going on an inward journey. Whereas an overtly materialistic person works on outside, his surroundings, on nature, and on resources available thru mother nature. But, the basic desire or instinct, is the same. How to be more happy,  how to be more comfortable, how to be more complete.  Because, every person, can’t go on a journey, some people are more comfortable, working in nature rather than going inside. And very logically, two patients having different symptoms, can’t be expected to be treated with the same medicine, logically, we can’t say, a person trying to be happy with spirituality, is superior to a person, who is working through material or nature.
